About the Azuero Peninsula

Azuero is a region that is made up of the two provinces, Herrera and Los Santos.

It is known as Panama's bastion of Spanish Colonial heritage. Azuero is home to several important historical museums and famous for its festivals and folkloric traditions.

With over 270 kilometers of coast and national parks, Azuero is one of the most natrually beautiful parts of Panamá.

Below are some of the best loved cities of Azuero and things to do and see in each:

Chitré
The Herrera Museum exhibits archeological and cultural artifacts.
La Catedral de San Juan Bautista
Movie Theater
Bird Migration site (Agallito Beach)
Beaches
Hundreds of kilometers of beaches, the most popular ones are Monagre, Rompio (near Chitré), El Toro (near Pedasí) and Cambutal and Venado for surfing

Parita
Home to the nationally known devil mask maker, Dario Lopez.
The town church, Iglesia Santo Domingo de Guzman, built 1656!
Nearby is Parque Nacional Sarigua,a manmade desert.
 
La Arena
Nationally famous for its bread
Full of Panamanian pottery and ceramics which are prized across the country and as souvenirs.
 
La Villa de los Santos
Iglesia de San Atanasio, a national monument
El Museo de la Nacionalidad.
The first Cries for independence from Spain on November 10, 1821 started here.
Corpus Christi festival
 
Las Tablas
Home to the biggest Carnaval in Panama, Pollera Festival Saint Librada Patron Saint festival
 
Guararé
Festival de la Mejorana-held at the end of September, a combination of patron saint celebration and folkloric
traditions
